Congress delegated their power to Trump without realizing it

Over many decades, Congress has delegated much of their authority over to regulatory agencies, which are part of the Executive branch of government. And now Trump is using that fact to basically write new laws. Congress basically gave the Executive branch the power to do so by giving regulatory agencies the ability to create their own regulations.

This was incredibly shortsighted by Congress.

Congress can take their power back, but it leaves them in an awkward position. Trump is trying to destroy federal bureaucracy with his Executive Orders. But if Congress takes back the power to create regulations, that would destroy the federal bureaucracy's rule-making authority. Either way, Trump wins. Either way, the regulatory agencies lose the ability to write their own rules.

Like the man or hate the man, but that was bloody brilliant.

I think part of it is the notion that they think they are the majority. But the reality is that they never were the majority, and depend on swing voters to win elections. That is why they lost to Trump so badly. The forgot they needed the swing voters to win, so they didn't bother appealing to moderates. And they were dumbfounded that they lost the White House, Senate, and the House.

So the logic follows, if they think they are the majority, then why not give the President unlimited power. As long as they get out the vote, they will never lose. Unfortunately for them, that logic is based on an inaccurate assessment of the political theater.

Plus, if you look at a lot of their tactics, they were clearly trying to follow the California model, and were trying to turn the U.S. into a one-party state where the Democrats always win.

But it backfired on them royally. Sure their slogans and propaganda sounds great, in many cases, but if you analyze the politicians, they were clearly attempting to seize power for themselves at the expense of the very people who support them.

To be fair, let's look at the other side of the isle. They engaged in gerrymandering to try to tilt elections in their favor. The only difference is that they knew they weren't the majority, but they wanted to rig things so they they would win anyway.

This basically makes both sides complicit.
