Campaigns Report - Election
election@campaigns.report
Many independent voters feel alienated from the two major parties, and are voting third party or not voting at all as a result. In close states, the loss of these voters for the major parties could cost them the election.

That's what happens when you pick crappy candidates.

The electorate certainly didn't pick Harris. The primary seems so long ago, I forget how many primaries there were to pick Trump.

This is true. A lot of us feel disenfranchised by the two party system.

Party registration has been dropping for a long time (in those states with party registration), so in those states with closed primaries, the number of people involved in the nominee choice is going down, assuming closed primary states are dropping along with the national average.
Then again, it could be argued that that is appropriate, as you should not be choosing the candidate of a party you are not affiliated with. Without competitive 3rd parties, that leaves fewer people picking the viable choices for all of us. It's a mess.

We need ranked choice voting, but both major parties, not surprisingly, are against it and are actively trying to kill the idea. They want to retain their status as one of two political superpowers.

Unfortunately, ranked-choice voting did not fare well in this election. Hopefully, it is a temporary setback.
