When someone gets too popular or too successful, they try to pull them back down to their level.
Successful and nice people make them look bad, since they are neither. So they sabotage others who are successful and nice.
The unspoken logic goes like this: If they are a great person and successful, that would mean I could be a great person and be successful, but I am not a good person nor am I successful, so therefore I am a loser. But since I don't want to be a loser, I need to prove that this great and successful person is just a charlatan and fraud and is really evil. At the very least, I have to bring them down to my level by sabotaging them, so I don't have to address my own shortcomings and failures.
